I met Jill Oberlander many years ago. Early on, I learned that one of her great strengths, among the many she has, is her compassion.
Simply put, Jill cares.
The ethic of caring came to Jill early in life. Her father was an OB-GYN who provided care to many of his patients who could not afford it. His concern and care for others was passed on to Jill.
Today, that compassion is evident in her approach to senior care.
Jill believes that after a lifetime of working, raising families and contributing to our communities, older residents should be able to remain here, live independently and receive dependable care when needed.
Jill’s approach to senior care is practical. She intends to look at expanding the Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders beyond its current enrollment limits, improving access to home health aides, transportation, meal programs and other community-based services. When nursing-home care becomes necessary, Jill will demand clarity on safety, staffing and quality.
And importantly, she will push to make it easier for families to understand and apply for available programs.
Older residents deserve security, independence and dignity. Jill has the experience, judgment and values to turn these goals into responsible, compassionate public policy.
Yours truly,
Lucy Krasnor
