Connecticut families pay some of the highest electricity bills in the country, close to double the national average. This is a structural problem, and Jill believes real fixes in state law are necessary, not political slogans or one-time rebates timed to an election. She will push hard in Hartford for changes that bring electric bills down and keeps them down.
This starts with holding utilities accountable. Eversource is asking regulators for another rate hike while trying to keep much of its filing out of public view, and Jill opposes both. She supports strong legislative oversight of the rate-review process, full public disclosure of what utilities want ratepayers to pay for and a Consumer Counsel that’s funded well enough to fight for families in rate cases and federal proceedings.
Supply constraints raise consumer costs. Jill supports the clean, locally sourced power that protects Connecticut from the swings in global fuel prices. She supports an expansion of renewable energy through solar projects and finishing the Revolution Wind project, which is expected to soon save customers around $100 million a year. Jill will defend those savings against efforts to stop them by the Trump administration. On natural gas, she will follow a commonsense approach: a new pipeline is worth building only if it actually lowers bills over time.
Jill believes transparency on costs is critical and regular audits of programs are necessary. Consumers should know what they’re paying for, and policymakers should know that funded programs are effective.
At the same time, affordability cannot come at the expense of the most vulnerable. Jill will protect the low-income assistance and weatherization programs that help families keep the lights on, and she supports regular audits of those programs so ratepayers can see the money is well spent. For a senior on a fixed income, a high electric bill can be the difference between keeping the power on and affording groceries or medicine and Jill will legislate with that senior in mind.
