You can count on me to put community first
Connecticut has shown that strong, common-sense gun safety laws can make a difference. Since 2021, the number of crimes committed with a firearm in our state has fallen by more than half, according to data from the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.
For years, Connecticut has taken action to keep guns out of the wrong hands while also respecting the rights of responsible gun owners. And as technology changes, our laws need to keep up. This year, Connecticut passed legislation addressing a dangerous new threat: handguns that can be easily converted into fully automatic machine guns using small conversion devices. The law also closed loopholes in our ghost-gun laws by extending restrictions to unfinished firearm frames and lower receivers — parts that can be used to build untraceable weapons.
Unfortunately, Republicans in Hartford — including our current state senator — have repeatedly voted against common-sense gun safety legislation.
Keeping our communities safe shouldn’t be a partisan issue. As your state senator, I’ll be a strong advocate for reasonable gun safety laws and a committed partner to law enforcement and community leaders. I’ll work to build on Connecticut’s progress and make sure our laws keep pace with changing times.
Because protecting our children, our families, and our communities is among government’s most important responsibilities.
